Intuit Websites & Services Temporarily Unavailable

According to official sources:

UPDATE as of 1:00pm ET: Intuit continues  working to restore full service to a number of websites and applications, including QuickBase, that became unavailable at about 7pm Tuesday, Pacific time.  Our first priority is to give customers full and complete access to our services and their data as soon as possible.  We are also investigating the cause of the problem and will take measures to prevent a recurrence.  We appreciate our customers' patience.  We will provide an update by 1:30 pm ET if not sooner. 

New Credit Card Acceptance Security Standards as of July 1, 2010

If your software processes credit card payments, be aware of new Payment Application Data Security Standards (PA-DSS) coming as of July 1, 2010.

If you are using QuickBooks 2010, please make sure that you have downloaded Release 7 (R7) as this latest QuickBooks update includes password security compliance requirements for users of QuickBooks Merchant Services. Before You Upgrade to QuickBooks 2010

If your computers are 3-5 years old, check to see that you have a supported Operating System such as:

• Windows 7, all editions including 64 bit
• Windows Vista, all editions including 64 bit if SP2 or later installed or Windows Vista with UAC, all editions including 64 bit
• Windows XP (SP2 or later strongly recommended), all editions including 64 bit if SP2 or later installed
• Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 Standard, Small Business and Enterprise editions including 64 bit

Also check to see that your computers meet the following requirements:

• At least 2.0GHz Pentium 4 processor; 2.4GHz recommended.
• At least 512MB RAM for a single user; 1GB recommended.
• At least 1GB of RAM for multiple, concurrent users.
• 1 GB of disk space (additional space required for data files).
• 4x CD-ROM drive required for CD installs.
• Display optimized for 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher. 1024 x 768 screen resolution or higher is required.
• U.S. version of Windows only.

Although we have been fans of the QuickBooks Online Edition, we usually recommend it only for small, service-based businesses.

Intuit to Discontinue QuickBooks 2007 Support

In the "olden days" (that would be about 5 years ago in computer years), when Intuit discontinued support for a product version, you were only affected if you were using Payroll.

Not any more.

As of May 31, 2010, if you are using QuickBooks 2007, you will not be able to use the following services:

Online Banking Services
Online Billing Services
QuickBooks Payroll Services and Support
QuickBooks Merchant Services
QuickBooks Email Services

If you decide to upgrade, call us at 561-737-3999. We can help you get the best pricing.

Before you upgrade, we recommend that you make a backup and print your financial statements, plus any other reports you use frequently. Install the new Quickbooks version in a separate area on your computer. If anything goes wrong, you will always be able to restore to the old version.

If it’s been years since you upgraded, consider verifying your files first to see if they will need data repair.

Automatically Recall Information

Would you like QuickBooks to automatically recall what account/item you used the last time you booked a transaction from a particular vendor? To turn on this feature, click Edit, select Preferences, and from the left scroll bar, click on the "General" icon. Put a check mark next to "automatically recall the last transaction for this name". Then click OK.

The next time you enter a transaction from this vendor, QuickBooks will automatically fill in the details from your last transaction. Modify what is necessary including the dollar amount of the transaction. If the prior transaction had multiple lines, you may delete any lines that are not applicable by highlighting the line and pressing Ctrl + Delete.
